Just-Notes keeps a note above whatever you are working in. Pull one out of the HUB and it becomes a real window of its own: you can move it, resize it, and leave it pinned over your browser, Excel or Photoshop while you work in them. The note stays where you put it until you close it, and you type in it the way you type in any other window.
The hinge on the left door still catches. They said the part comes Friday.
Today 11:00Why a note on top is different from a note in a tab
A note in another tab is a note you have to go and find. The moment you switch to it you leave the thing you were doing, and the reason you opened the note in the first place is already out of sight. You read a note pinned above the work without leaving the work: the next step is one glance away and your hands stay where they were.
This is the part people usually build for themselves. There are forum threads about it going back years, scripts that force a window to stay on top, utilities that do it for any program at all. Just-Notes does it for the thing people wanted it for in the first place, which is the note kept beside a task.
What it looks like in use
Your notes live in one calm list, the HUB. Open the HUB, find the note, and drag it out: the note becomes its own window, sized to the note rather than to a sidebar. Put it where you need it and it stays there, above the window you are typing in.
Each note you pull out is a separate window, so two notes side by side over one document is an ordinary arrangement. Closing a note saves it and sends it back into the list.
Everything inside the note works the same in that window as anywhere else: checklists you tick off, tables that add up, photos, files, and a reminder that goes off at the minute you set.
On a phone the same note goes on the home screen
A phone has no windows to pin over, so the same idea takes the shape a phone has: a widget. Put a note on your home screen and it sits there with your other apps, scrolling if it is long, and you tick items off without opening anything.
It is the same note. Turn sync on and the note you pinned over Excel at work is the note on your home screen on the way home.
Which computers
Just-Notes is built for Windows and macOS from one codebase, so the window model is the same on both. The release is close: the Mac app comes first, through the App Store, then Windows.
