Notes that calculate

A table inside a Just-Notes note adds up. Paste the rows in from a spreadsheet, sort them, put a formula in a cell, and read the total without opening a spreadsheet at all. The table stays part of the note, beside the text explaining what it is for, so the number and the reason for the number live in the same place.

Formulas, and what happens when one breaks

Cells take the formulas you would expect: =SUM(B2:B5) for a column, =A2*B2 for a row. When a formula points at a cell that is no longer there, the cell says #REF rather than a number. A broken reference is something you see while you are looking at the note.

Units, converted as you add them

Measurements add up with their units attached. 5 km + 3 mi gives 9.828032 km, because the note knows what a mile is. You do the arithmetic in the note instead of beside it.

Tables that leave the note intact

Export writes your tables out as CSV, and they open in Excel in proper columns rather than as one long line of commas, with the separator your own region uses. A German copy of Excel wants semicolons and an American one wants commas; the file arrives the way the machine opening it expects.

Why this sits in a notes app at all

Most of the arithmetic a day contains is small: a quote with three line items, the hours across a week, a shopping list with a budget at the bottom. None of it is worth a spreadsheet, a file name and a folder to lose the file in, and all of it is worth getting right.

So the table lives in the note with everything else the job needs: the photo of the thing being quoted for, the PDF that came with it, the checklist of what is left, and the reminder to send it on Friday.
